ARCHIVED - Weekly COVID-19 Statistical Data in Scotland

This open data publication has moved to COVID-19 Statistical Data in Scotland (from 02/11/2022)

Novel coronavirus (COVID-19) is a new strain of coronavirus first identified in Wuhan, China. Clinical presentation may range from mild-to-moderate illness to pneumonia or severe acute respiratory infection. This dataset provides information on demographic characteristics (age, sex, deprivation) of confirmed novel coronavirus (COVID-19) cases, as well as trend data regarding the wider impact of the virus on the healthcare system. Data includes information on primary care out of hours consultations, respiratory calls made to NHS24, contact with COVID-19 Hubs and Assessment Centres, incidents received by Scottish Ambulance Services (SAS), as well as COVID-19 related hospital admissions and admissions to ICU (Intensive Care Unit). Further data on the wider impact of the COVID-19 response, focusing on hospital admissions, unscheduled care and volume of calls to NHS24, is available on the COVID-19 Wider Impact Dashboard.

There is a large amount of data being regularly published regarding COVID-19 (for example, Coronavirus in Scotland – Scottish Government and Deaths involving coronavirus in Scotland – National Records of Scotland. Coverage Data covering all of Scotland for positive cases, NHS24 calls, hospital admissions and admissions to ICU, contact with COVID-19 Hubs and Assessment Centres and COVID-19 related primary care out of hours consultations. Data on contacts with COVID-19 Hubs and Assessment Centres includes data for NHS Grampian from 1 May due to problems with extracting data from their system.
Completeness All Scottish laboratories submit positive results to ECOSS. NHS24 data is submitted daily covering the activity for the previous day and covers all clinical and dental calls, excluding calls to NHS inform for advice only. Data collection for the SICSAG core dataset is by the bespoke Wardwatcher data collecting platform. It includes admissions to intensive care units (ICUs), combined intensive care/high dependency units, and areas of hospital which have been repurposed to provide intensive care. The data does not include admissions to paediatric ICUs, neonatal ICUs and standalone high dependency units (HDUs). Care Home figures are an undercount in some cases as complete data were not collected for all Care Homes. During the week ending 31 January, there were 203 homes with active confirmed cases. Based on return of 1,053 of Scotland's 1,065 adult care homes.
Accuracy ECOSS data is subject to data quality and assurance processes. There are ongoing data quality discussions with NHS Boards regarding New COVID and Assessment Hub data. SICSAG data is subject to ongoing validation and must be regarded as dynamic. It is the responsibility of Boards to work with care homes as part of their oversight arrangements to quality assure Care Home data. The role of PHS is to collate and publish only.
Continuity of data Data is produced weekly from 2 April 2020. From 24 June, the data released includes testing results from the UK Government’s Regional Testing Centres, as well as data from NHS Laboratories, including historic test results.
