Weekly number of admissions, total length of stay (days) and average length of stay (days), for patients admitted as an emergency to a hospital in Scotland identified from Rapid Preliminary Inpatient Data (RAPID), with laboratory-confirmed respiratory infections broken down by Age Group, for 3 respiratory conditions (COVID-19, Influenza and RSV (respiratory syncytial virus)).

The case definition includes patients admitted as an emergency to a medical specialty in acute hospitals (excluding surgical, maternity/obstetrics and mental health specialties, and emergency admissions with patient injury codes) who have a PCR test result, taken within a period of between 14 days before the admission date and 48 hours after the admission date. COVID-19 test results can include LFD results (from 05 Jan 2022).

The length of stay is calculated as the difference between the discharge date and the date of admission in days.

RAPID figures are subject to change and particularly for the most recent week may be incomplete for some Boards.
