This dataset contains a lookup file of contact details for General Practitioners (GPs) and the practice they are registered at. The information includes General Medical Council (GMC) number, address, telephone details of their practice. All publications and supporting material to this topic area can be found on the Public Health Scotland website.

Time frame of data and timeliness The data are based on a snapshot of the National Primary Care Clinicians Database (NPCCD).
Coverage All GPs contracted to work in Scottish General Practices. Excludes GPs working only on a locum/sessional basis and those working only in Out of Hours service locations and also excludes NHS Board administration practices which have no registered GPs or registered patients.
Completeness The data are considered complete. Workforce statistics taken from the National Primary Care Clinicians Database (NPCCD).
Accuracy Information on the GP workforce and the practices within which they work is collated and recorded routinely by NHS Boards in line with regulatory and operational requirements. This information is therefore considered to have a high degree of overall accuracy.
Continuity of data The data are based on long established datasets and definitions of data items are unlikely to change. Any changes are noted in the revision statement.
Concepts and definitions Address and contact phone number for GP practices. General Medical Council number, name and sex of GPs.
Disclosure The PHS protocol on Statistical Disclosure Protocol is followed.
Revision statement These data are not subject to planned major revisions.
Official statistics designation Quarterly reports have not been assessed for statistical designation. These reports follow the same methodology as the annual reports which are classed as National Statistics.
Relevance and key uses of the statistics The majority of interactions patients make with the health service are made through GP practices. GP practice contact details are widely used by patients, health boards, the Scottish Government, researchers, and other organisations.
