Non-Attendance Rates – Inpatient and Daycase
Information on Did Not Attend and Could Not Attend Rates for Inpatient and Daycase patients. A patient who does not attend an accepted appointment and gives the hospital no prior notice is recorded as a Did Not Attend (DNA). A patient who cancels an appointment in advance is recorded as a Could Not Attend (CNA). Data is presented at health board level, broken down by specialty.

Specialties with a low volume of patients at Scotland level have been excluded from the specialty breakdown therefore the specialty breakdown will not match the total presented under 'All Specialties'. NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde code patients under more than one specialty with code 'XSU', as this is not on the list of ISD Specialty codes this has resulted in these patients specialty codes being mapped to a blank code. | |

The DNA rate is the number of DNAs presented as a proportion of all appointments which patients could have attended during the reporting period. That is, any appointment which had not been cancelled before the day of the appointment. | |
