Non Standard Geography Codes and Labels

NHS have added codes for non standard geographies that are separate to the standard 9 digit codes. These include

  • Special Health Boards and National Facilities

  • Strategic Business Units

  • Other non official Residential Categories

Concepts and definitions Non standard geographies are categories that do not have an official geography code in the Standard Geography Code Register, such as special health boards, national facilities and residential categories that are essential in reporting but cannot be mapped to a specific area. The 6-digit format was chosen to differentiate non-standard geography codes from standard 9-digit codes issued by the Government Statistical Service (GSS).
