Qualifier information

NumberOfAdmissions numeric The total number of admissions. An admission marks the start of an inpatient episode or day case episode.
NumberOfDischarges numeric The total number of discharges. A hospital discharge marks the end of an episode of care. Discharges include deaths, transfers to other specialties/significant facilities and hospitals, and discharges home or to other regular place of residence.
NumberOfStays numeric The total number of continuous inpatient stays. A continuous inpatient stay is an unbroken period of time that a patient spends as an inpatient. However, a patient may change consultant, significant facility, specialty, and/or hospital during a continuous inpatient stay. Stays are assigned to health boards of treatment based on information taken from the last episode in the stay.
NumberOfPatients numeric The total number of patients. A patient is defined as an individual discharged from hospital (including as a transfer out) at least once during the financial year. Patients are counted only once in each financial year. However, if they have been treated in multiple health boards, they will be counted more than once.
NumberOfHospitalResidents numeric The total number of hospital residents. A hospital resident is an individual who is an inpatient at midnight on 31 March, before the beginning of the next financial year (1 April). Although the term 'hospital resident' is used for simplicity, some people will be looked after in care homes (under contract to the local NHS Board).
NumberOfHospitalResidentsQF text A qualifier to give extra information about the number of hospital residents.
