Information on probable suicides registered in Scotland in the period 2011-2019, by healthcare service contacted prior to death and council area. The period for contact before death is 3 months for A&E Attendance, and 12 months for all other services.

Column Type Label Description
HealthcareService text The name of the healthcare service that members of the ScotSID cohort were in contact with before their death.
TimeRange text Denotes the calendar years covered by this dataset. This summarises 9 years' worth of data from 1 January 2011 to 31 December 2019.
CA text 9-digit code for the council area that the individual lived in. A council area is an area made for local government. There are 32 council areas in Scotland. They are all governed by unitary authorities called 'councils'. The council areas were created on 1 April 1996, under the provisions of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1994.

Council area labels

IndividualsCount text The total number of individuals whose underlying cause of death is classified as ‘intentional self-harm’ or ‘event of undetermined intent’.
IndividualsCountQF text A qualifier to give extra information about the individual count.
